In the context of sustainability and CO₂ reduction, the demand for biogas has increased significantly in recent years and, given global geopolitical developments, is expected to continue rising.

To prevent high-quality raw materials from being diverted to anaerobic digestion, we have seen stricter sustainability requirements for raw materials across Europe. In France and Wallonia, for example, raw materials have already been legally required to be certified as sustainable since January 1, 2024.

There are several certification systems to demonstrate that a raw material is sustainable, and since 2019, Renewables has been ISCC certified for this purpose.

To meet local requirements and preferences, we obtained 2BSvs certification as of January 1st of this year for our new French entity. 2BSvs is a system that is originally and widely used in France.
Italy has developed its own national system called NIS. Without this certification, raw materials cannot be classified as sustainable within Italy. Renewables has also been certified for NIS as of January 1st of this year.

All the certifications mentioned above involve chain certification (Chain of Custody). This means that everyone involved throughout the entire supply chain must be certified.
