Why co-products are sustainable

Duynie sets itself apart by working exclusively with co-products from the food and beverage industries. These are upcycled into sustainable, functional food ingredients. “We’re seeing a rising demand for responsibly sourced ingredients,” Wouter notes. “But always without compromising on taste, functionality, or cost-in-use.”

Because Duynie uses co-products, the environmental footprint land, water, and CO2 is attributed to the original product (e.g., beer or fries). Duynie’s processing adds minimal emissions, resulting in ingredients with significantly lower environmental impact. “Some ingredients are up to ten times more sustainable than conventional alternatives like soy protein”, says Wouter.

Making it work in practice

“Often, customers come to us with a specific challenge,” explains Wouter. “For example, they might ask: what’s the impact of adding 5% of your protein DuyGrain® to a wheat bread in terms of taste, texture, sustainability, and cost-in-use? We love these kinds of questions because they allow us to demonstrate real value.”

Duynie’s technical sales and application specialists play an important role in helping customers unlock the full potential of our ingredients. Through hands-on collaboration and product development, customers can experience the taste, functionality and sustainability benefits of Duynie’s solutions firsthand.

This collaborative approach enables Duynie to go far beyond simply supplying ingredients. By co-creating end products with customers the company becomes a partner. Its deep knowledge of ingredient functionality helps customers innovate, optimise formulations and strengthen their market position.

“We’re not just a supplier we’re a partner who collaborates on the application and impact of our ingredients,” Wouter emphasises. “Together, we create sustainable value, from co-products to end product.”

Ingredient portfolio

Duynie’s current portfolio is built around three key ingredient groups:

“Food producers can truly lower their environmental impact because the ingredients in our portfolio are used in large volumes,” says Wouter Bergevoet. “Often, multiple ingredients are applied in the same product, which gives us the opportunity to deliver added value through smart combinations.”

Looking Ahead

As the food industry continues to evolve, the pressure to innovate sustainably is growing. Duynie proves that upcycled food ingredients help food manufacturers innovate to get a competitive advantage.

“This is just the beginning,” says Wouter. “We’re excited about the future and the role Duynie can play in shaping a more sustainable food system.” Have a challenge for us? We welcome it. Get in touch and discover how Duynie can help you turn sustainability into a competitive advantage.
