A little bit of background
Duynie UK, a member of Duynie Group, forms part of Royal Cosun, a Dutch farming cooperative with more than a hundred years’ experience in growing and processing sugar beet. Over the decades, as Royal Cosun grew, it expanded into other areas of food manufacturing, acquiring companies that produced a diverse range of foodstuffs, from French fries to ‘inulin’ – a high fibre sugar alternative extracted from chicory root.
With those companies came a wealth of co-products. So in the late 1960s, Duynie NL was welcomed into the fold with the express intention of marketing this array of co-products as raw materials – firstly for animal feed, later for the industry and energy markets. At first, business was limited to the Benelux nations. But as things developed, the markets in which Royal Cosun and Duynie operated spread across Europe.
Where we are today
Nowadays, the Duynie Group is made up of four distinct business units:
- Duynie Feed (livestock feeds, mainly for the dairy, beef and pigs sectors)
- Novidon (potato starch processing)
- Duynie Ingredients (with pet foods as its primary market)
- AgriBioSource (ABS)(mainly supplying the biogas sector with feedstocks)
Collectively, we work closely with the Cosun Research and Innovation Centre to explore further uses for co-products and to develop groundbreaking innovations such as protein extraction and starch modification. With a shared ‘continuous improvement’ mindset, as a group, we constantly drive progress forward. Our research is paving the way for the reintroduction of co-products into the human food chain and we’re always on the lookout for other sustainable applications.
Duynie UK is an ambitious player in the competitive co-products market. Our diverse and wide-ranging portfolio includes:
- Brewery and distillery grains and liquid feeds
- Potato products from the UK French fries industry
- Bakery co-products
- Fruit from the UK fresh juice industry
- Moist and dry products from the malting industry
- Dry and liquid feeds from the wheat processing industry
Currently, in the UK our main business revolves around the direct supply of liquid, moist and dry feeds in their natural forms to the livestock industry. However, innovations have been growing in moist blends produced using various co-products. Farmers are keen to explore the benefits of these blends, so this is an area of focus for the UK and of future growth for the group.

What makes Duynie stand out from the crowd
We know that in business, as in life, relationships matter. We never take our customers for granted and we fully recognise that you have a choice. Customer service is our top priority, so we have six sales mangers strategically located around the UK. They’re constantly on call and like to keep in regular contact with their clients. But it’s not all sell, sell, sell – when they come to see you on one of their regular visits, they’ll want to learn about your experiences, listen to your concerns and hear about your areas of interest and what works well for you. To make sure our products are doing all they can for you, we have a highly skilled nutritionist on hand, offering advice on what to feed, how much and when.
Integrity and fairness are central to the way we operate. To respect our relationship and – so you always know where you stand – we maintain a balanced price based on the Relative Feed Value of our products throughout the year, rather than slashing and hiking prices as a knee-jerk reaction to fluctuations in supply and demand. We believe this balanced and transparent way of pricing is the fairest and most honest way to do business. It means we don’t change our prices from bargain-basement in the summer to sky-high in the winter. Though it’s possible for co-product feeds to face periods of high and even over-demand at certain times of the year, if you become an all-year-round feeder with us we’ll take care of you even if supply does get tight.
